After graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and studying bassoon with Kam Shui, King-lun attended the Birmingham Conservatory in the UK on a full scholarship, then continued his musical education at the Paris Conservatoire de Musique de Gennevilliers in France with Pascal Gallois and the Conservatoire de Geneve in Switzerland, in the class of a bassoon master, Roger Birnstingl. During this period, King-lun performed with a number of European orchestras, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, L’orchestre de Suisse Romande, Sinfonietta de Lausanne and Orchestre Internationale de Paris (in a concert tour of France). Back in Asia, he performed with the Asian Youth Orchestra and was featured as a soloist in the Orchestra’s concert tour of Asia in 1991.
King-lun currently teaches at The Education University of Hong Kong and other schools. He also regularly serves as a guest bassoonist/ contra-bassoonist with various orchestras in Hong Kong, Macau, China, Singapore, and Thailand. He is the founder of the Eastern Winds Ensemble, which received critical acclaim in Argentina where the Ensemble premiered works by major Hong Kong composers and also held a flute, bassoon recital in Nagano, Japan. Furthermore, he is a founding member of the Hong Kong Wind Kamerata, which has performed in many concerts and festivals in HK and on concert tours to Switzerland, Beijing, and Macau.
King-lun was principal bassoon of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, China from 2009-2010. Moreover, he has served as an adjudicator of the Macao Youth Music Competition every other year since 2012. King-lun has held a lecture recital at Baptist University and was invited to join the Singapore Symphony Orchestra on their European tour in 2016.
