Message from the President:
During my tenure with the Hong Kong Oratorio
Society as its Chairman and Advisor during the period between 1976-1980,
we had fostered a cordial relationship with the Hong Kong Philharmonic
Orchestra. Under the baton of its conductor, Hans Gunter Mommer,
immortal works such as Beethoven's Choral Symphony, Carl Off's Carmina
Burana and Handel's Messiah were rendered to the delight of the
audience of Hong Kong. He was overwhelmed with the high standard
and commitment of the Society that he proposed continued co-operation.
On his recommendation, we were invited to participate in the Hong
Kong Arts Festival and the Asian Arts Festival. Works like Elgar's
Dream of Gerontius with the Scottish BBC Orchestra under the directorship
of Christopher Seaman and Faure's Requiem with the Bournemouth Philharmonic
Orchestra were the highlights that bring back cherished memories.
With the advent of the millennium, our Society
endeavours to maintain the fine tradition set in the past years.
With the continued support and patronage of the Hong Kong audience,
Friends of the Society and the music fraternity, we hope to elevate
the standard of our performances to new heights.
